We are so excited to have you stay at Water's Edge. Here is some information to help you prepare for your trip.

Customs Information

When you complete your customs card please use the following address for your place of stay:

Water's Edge
72 Eastern Road, Nassau

Money

The Bahamian Dollar is pegged to the US Dollar (1$ to 1B). US dollars are accepted throughout the island. Credit cards sometimes have minimum limits and machines are often down, so having some cash on hand is a good idea.  ATMs are available throughout the island. If you take a Taxi they will require cash payment.

Taxi Service & Car rental

Joe, the owner of our recommended taxi service, is a courteous, trustworthy and professional person. If you wish to use his services please email him directly stating you are my guest at Water's Edge. It is important to give him your flight details as he will monitor the flight for delays, etc. When you exit from baggage claim he will be outside the arrivals with a sign with your name on it. Additionally, if you need it, he or one of his staff will be more than happy to convey you around the island during your stay - his charges are reasonable and fair and he has vehicles with room for large groups to travel together.

If you would like to rent a car you can also discuss options with Joe.  He has larger vehicles available for rent at reasonable prices.

Groceries

There is a local grocery store within a 5-minute drive or a 10-minute walk from the house and a high-end grocery store a few miles away.  If you use Joe he will be happy to take you grocery (and liquor) shopping on your way home to Water's Edge and wait for you. If you prefer to have groceries delivered you can easily order and arrange for delivery soon after your arrival by using FoodStoreToGo.com. The delivery neighborhood you must select from the drop-down list is "Eastern Road".

Daily Housekeeping

Marsha can also provide daily housekeeping services.  Daily housekeeping must be ordered and pre-paid at least 7 days prior to arrival. There is no opportunity to order daily housekeeping after arrival and services can not be canceled or refunded. To order housekeeping please send us an email and let us know.

What To Bring

The house is very well-stocked with most of the items that you will need to enjoy a fabulous vacation but there are some personal or perishable items you may want to bring from home.

  • Personal Toiletries - The house is equipped with pump soap at every sink but does not include any other toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, bath soap, bug spray, etc... Don't forget your sunscreen!

  • We do provide a supply of toilet paper and paper towels but if you wish to refill your supply you may want to bring your own.

  • Grocery Items - The grocery stores are expensive in the Bahamas and you will not always find the items you would like. We recommend you pack some coffee for your first morning in the house (coffee maker and filters provided). Snacks and treats are also worth packing as the selection is limited and expensive. If you have special dietary requirements you may want to pack some of your favorite foods in case you can not find specialty foods on the island. If you are a rum or spirits drinker you will happily find that spirits are extremely inexpensive on the island. If you are a wine drinker you are out of luck. Good wine is hard to find and is expensive. You may want to pick up a few bottles in Duty-Free on your way over if you would like to have wine in the house. The Bahamas allows $100 of goods per visitor duty-free.

  • Ocean Equipment - You will definitely want to swim in the ocean off of the back patio so you will want to pack water shoes. There is always a supply in the house but we may not have your size. There are plenty of areas with soft sandy bottoms but the coral off the back of the house can get prickly. If you plan on snorkeling we do have several sets of snorkeling equipment in the house - but if you prefer your own you won't regret the space it took to pack it.
